I have been drumming and dancing for over 20 years with people of all ages and walks of life. Bringing fun and natural joy in sharing traditional rhythms and moves of Guinea, West Africa.
I stumbled across drumming at the Woodford Folk Festival in 1996, and was immediately captivated by the energy of the drum circle. I then had the opportunity to study with a number of teachers with my biggest influence being master Griot Epizo Bangoura.
“Damo has since become one of the most experienced traditional drummers and dancers on the South Coast and wider NSW.”
“Damion brings a memorable life and energy to his sessions that leave a lasting impact. His circles develop creative energy, relieve stress and anxiety though sharing traditions from West Africa & Guinea.” Stella Studioz.
I am also an experienced, active session player and performer, playing in bands The Groove, Beatmeisters, Swing Booty, Rani’s Fire and my own solo gigs as Swamp n Beats.
Outside of music, I passionately work as a Sustainability Officer for Wollondilly Shire Council and spend my downtime reconnecting with earth and promoting sustainable, healthy living.
