Event Details
Mensch, Monique! (Berlin, Germany) and The Beez (Germany, Australia) are excited to be playing a select few dates together on the occasion of the former´s first Australian tour from late January to late March 2023.
This will be a joyous reunion of friends and colleagues who have been torn apart for over three years on two continents by Covid. Deta and Rob, stranded in Australia (and loving it!) since 2020, and, in Germany, Jule, former singer and bassist with The Beez, and her partner Georg, guitarist on the very first Beez
Australian tour in 2006 and constant technical support on subsequent tours.
These shows promise to be a musical firecracker of showcase and collaboration with many much-loved gems being resurrected and revamped as well as a wealth of new material from both bands.
Mensch, Monique! (“Oh, Monique!” for those of us not conversant with German- and I suppose that´s most of us!)) are a breath of fresh Mistral air from the French Atlantic to the German Baltic, a gorgeous amalgam of Berlin indie folk with lashings of funk, jazz and blues.
Featuring the soaring voice and metronomic, melodic bass of Jule Schroeder and the atmospheric fretboard acrobatics and vocal harmonic magic of Georg Sassnowski, Mensch, Monique have carved a niche for themselves in Germany and beyond, having played major festivals Europa-wide and enchanted audiences with their intriguing self-penned songs of satellites bidding farewell in deep space and inexplicably vanishing band colleagues.
The Beez are Deta C. Rayner (accordion and vocals) and Rob Rayner (guitar and vocals), who unwittingly missed the Last Plane Out of Sydney, will be presenting a yodellin’, thigh slappin’, lederhosen wettin´ fest featuring the Beatific Beats of their Bavarian Boombox. You´ll thrill to comic classics from the likes of Rammstein and Bonnie Tyler; you´ll tear off that dirndl and shake a Teutonic Tailfeather when you catch a glimpse of Nena´s 99 Red Balloons; you´ll swoon to Marlene Dietrich´s Lili Marlene; you´ll jive to Germafied Oz Rock Classics from Oils to Icehouse but, most of all, you´ll be entertained-and that´s an order!
