Sounds Delicious is now moving into its third year. We have had some amazing artists and created some precious moments with great music, tasty food and a passion for quality.
2017 we are morphing slightly with the ‘Sounds Delicious Summer Series’: Last weekend of the month we will be featuring a distinctive artist, a menu created especially for and inspired by the cultural origins of the artist, and of course the ultimate musical experience for the audience and artist in a pop-up venue a stones throw from Jervis Bay.
The Sounds Delicious Summer series will be happening last weekend of the month every month and we are proud to announce our November show:

Wes Carr has worn a lot of hats in the twenty years he’s been a professional musician, acoustic troubadour, reality show winner and chart-topping pop star. He has been front man of the Silverchair side project Tambalane and was the nations’ sweetheart when he took out Australian Idol. Wes’ ragged, soaring voice recalling Bruce Springsteen and John Lennon coupled with the rambling spirit and storytelling of Leonard Cohen has taken him around the globe and then some. Wes is a man who has walked through the fire, paid more than his share of dues and has emerged on the other side. He has experienced the highs and adulation few of us will ever enjoy. He’s ridden the rigors of a spell in the music industry spotlight and has arrived with a bag full of songs, bursting at the seams.
Music is in Wes Carr’s DNA. He is a multifaceted instrumentalist, producer, international award winning singer songwriter and performer.
Tending to a shattered heart at the age of 12 when his parents separated, Wes found comfort in an old piano and guitar. A self-taught artist, Wes turned his worries into words and music was his outlet. A therapy of sorts.
A move to Sydney was to follow, where the young artist started gigging at the tender age of 14. Playing bars in Sydney’s Inner City small music venues, Wes’ music turned the heads of the industry heavyweights, and soon he was working with Australian music Icons including Paul Mac, Missy Higgins, Don Walker and Andrew Farris from INXS. A publishing deal was secured and his dream of playing music for a living had begun.
A collaboration with Silverchair’s Ben Gillies soon followed. The project issued a self-released album in 2005 and embarked on a national tour in support of it. They gained critical acclaim and extensive radio play. It was the first of many treks around the country.
2006 saw Wes extend his craft and travel to Los Angeles to work with industry veteran CJ Vanston, Joe Cockers musical director, where he worked with Jeff “the skunk” Baxter (Steely Dan and the Doobie Brothers). Wes independently released his first solo album this same year, “Simple Sum” The album drew influences from the Dave Mathews band and Jeff Buckley and several songs from the album featured on popular television shows.
Back home Wes was playing sell out shows around small venues in the east of Sydney, but he felt compelled to find a bigger platform to share his songs.
Winning series 6 of Network Tens Australian Idol in 2008 certainly gave those songs a much larger platform and Wes single ‘You’ became a Platinum selling Aria number 1 single. His album “The Way the World Looks” stormed the Aria charts opening at number 2, with the song “Feels Like Woah” then becoming the most played song on Australian radio. This track also gained international attention becoming the theme song for CBS.
Touring was now an everyday affair, where Carr spent the next few years on the road playing to sell out shows across the country. He supported Cold Chisels’ Ian Moss on a 58 show tour and well known Irish band ‘The Script’ on their international tour.
2010-2012 Wes embarked on a global writing trip and cut a record at Roy Orbison’s studio in Nashville and the iconic Sunset Sound Studios in LA The record was never released.
In 2012 Wes created Buffalo Tales an independent release. Yearning for a simpler time, it was a cathartic departure from the rock sound and a more honest intimate creation, with folk and alt country overtones. It was time to strip back the production and return to his roots. Wes created the EP “Blood and Bone” with best mate and Jazz royalty Stu Hunter. “Roadtrip Confessions” the album was soon to follow. Both reaching number 2 on the Singer Songwriter charts. A few more national tours, but this time capturing the essence of the troubadour. Intimate raw and complex. Wes felt at home.
International recognition soon followed with Wes winning Best Male Artist at the International Acoustic Music Awards in 2013. And second place in the International songwriting competition with his song ‘Lost’ which he co-wrote with mentor Don Walker from Cold Chisel.
In 2015 ‘Lost’ was released by Chisel as the first single off their album “No Plans” recognising Carr as one of the country’s best writers.
This same year Wes toured his sell out one man show “Here Comes the Sun” a show he created celebrating the late and great George Harrison. Offers came in soon after for more story telling on the main stage with Wes touring nationally to sell out theatres with “Rolling Thunder Vietnam”
Composing is another role Wes has loved stepping into. His songs have featured in the Christopher Guests film “For your Consideration” the award winning Australian film “3 Blind Mice” while many other songs have featured on prime television.
This year Wes received his first Golden Guitar for best collaboration with Catherine Britt.
In between laps of the country, Wes found himself becoming a father and wearing the honourable hat of “Dad.” To date Wes’ greatest achievement.
And the bag full of songs? They will be shared later in the year with Wes’ best work yet. “Hummingbird” the album will be the telling of the tales. The heart of Carr. Ranging from joy to existential fear and every emotional point in between.
Sounds Delicious is the Brain child of Paul Greene, who is also a highly respected writer, producer and performer. ARIA finalist in 2012, Greene has released 8 solo albums since 2000 and been a trailblazer for Australian independent music.
