Damian Wright’s flamenco concert at Tomerong last year was special, as he took the crowd on an adventure through the different styles of flamenco . He is touring again in April, and we are lucky to have him back – THIS TIME WITH a brilliant flamenco guitarist from Spain (Paco Lara) and James Hauptmann on percussion.

GUITARRA FLAMENCA feat. PACO LARA (SPAIN) & DAMIAN WRIGHT (AUS)
Acclaimed flamenco guitarist PACO LARA from Jerez de la frontera, Spain, together with ARIA nominated flamenco guitarist DAMIAN WRIGHT presenting a performance of flamenco guitar music as well as music by Chick Corea, Jorge Cardoso & more…the evening will also feature JAMES HAUPTMANN on percussion.
Embodying the unmistakeable Jerez style of flamenco guitar playing, PACO LARA has toured Internationally alongside Maestro Paco Cepero, one of flamenco’s most legendary guitarists and composers. Paco Lara has also been at the vanguard of Flamenco Fusion with hugely sucessful groups such as El Barrio (años 2000 a 2003) y Los Delinqüentes (años 2007 a 2011).
Apart from his skill as a formidable soloist Paco is also revered for his ability as an acompaniest in the specialised world of flamenco singing (cante). This is evident in his having recorded and/or performed with Flamenco’s most significant artists.
As an accompaniest to flamenco dance (Baile) Paco has participated in many European tours with famed Flamenco dancer Merecedes Ruiz from Jerez, in her concerts Dibujos en el aire, Gestos de mujer y Perspectivas. The later was awarded the “Critics Choice” at The Festival de Jerez in 2011 and this project has been represented in prestigious programs and festivals across Europe .
In 2014 DAMIAN WRIGHT was invited to perform as a SOLO artist at The Rajasthan International Folk Festival, INDIA and in 2016 performed at The Shanghai Fringe Festival, CHINA. Damian’s flamenco ensemble BANDALUZIA were invited to perform at the biannual Adelaide International Guitar Festival curated by Slava Grigoryan. Bandaluzia was also recently awarded “The Pick Of the Sydney Fringe” at The Sydney Fringe Festival and performed to a sold out Sydney Opera House Concert Hall as an invited artist to TEDX Sydney 2014.
